CEO Pursues Environmental Permit for the 300,000-Barrel-Per-Day Negin Bandar Abbas Petro-refinery Project in Meeting with Vice-president
As part of efforts to expedite the process of obtaining the environmental permits required for the strategic 300,000-barrel-per-day Negin Bandar Abbas Petro-refinery Project, a meeting was held with Dr. Ansari, Honorable Vice-president of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Head of the Department of Environment, and the Company’s Chief Executive Officer.
It was also announced that the process of obtaining the project’s environmental permit, which constitutes the final stage among the project’s principal approvals, is currently undergoing final review by the specialized committee of the Office of Environmental Impact Assessment of the Department of Environment. Over recent months, several technical and expert-level meetings have been held between the project’s technical team, specialized consultants and experts from the Department of Environment. The issues and requirements raised during these sessions have been carefully reviewed and addressed in accordance with national and international standards.
The meeting also addressed the technical, economic, and strategic dimensions of Negin Bandar Abbas Petro-refinery Project. With a refining capacity of 300,000 barrels of crude oil per day, this national project has been designed to develop downstream industries, reduce crude oil exports in its raw form, increase value added throughout the oil and gas value chain, and strengthen the country’s energy security. The utilization of state-of-the-art technologies and the highest possible level of compliance with environmental standards have been incorporated as fundamental principles in the design and implementation of the project.
A significant part of the meeting focused on protecting the valuable ecosystem of western Hormozgan Province as one of the key considerations in the project’s design and implementation. According to the studies conducted as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment process, all relevant requirements concerning the protection of coastal and marine ecosystems, regional biodiversity, water resource management, and emissions control have been incorporated into the project’s technical design. This approach is intended to ensure that industrial development in this strategically important region proceeds in constructive harmony with the environment while safeguarding the long-term sustainability of the regional ecosystem.
During the meeting, Dr. Ansari emphasized the importance of developing major industrial projects within the framework of sustainable development principles. She also stressed the need for both thoroughness and expeditious handling of the expert review processes associated with environmental assessments and called for special follow-up of the matter by the specialized Environmental Impact Assessment Committee, with the aim of facilitating the issuance of the Company’s environmental permit in the coming days.
The meeting was held in a professional atmosphere characterized by constructive cooperation between executive bodies and specialized institutions. The participants emphasized the fundamental importance of aligning the country’s industrial development with environmental protection and the preservation of regional ecosystems.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the CEO of Negin Bandar Abbas Petro-refinery expressed his appreciation for the professional and responsible approach of the Department of Environment. He emphasized the continuation of technical and expert-level cooperation until a final outcome is achieved and expressed hope that, through the acceleration of decision-making processes, the implementation of this strategic project will make a significant contribution to sustainable development, strengthening the country’s energy security, and addressing the existing energy imbalance.
